Carole Cowan who this year celebrates her 15th Year as President of Middlesex Community College received "The 2004 Tribute to Women Award" from the YWCA of Lowell. Cowan was honored for her long-standing commitment to the community at the second annual "YWCA Tribute to Women." (See special profile)Carole Cowan

Evan Dobelle was President of Middlesex Community College, Lowell, in 1989 and helped establish the Wider Horizons Horizons Project. He extended the students’ cultural experiences by financing visits to Tanglewood , home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Summer ( http://www.bso.org/  ) and to Jacobs Pillow, Jacob’s Pillow is America’s premier dance festival and National Historic Landmark (http://www.jacobspillow.org/ ).

The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) has selected Evan S. Dobelle, who has been president of four colleges and universities and was elected to two terms as mayor of Pittsfield, Mass., while still in his twenties, as president and CEO of the nonprofit, six-state education agency, effective Jan. 1, 2005.

Bob O’Neill , Head Librarian of the Burns Library, Boston College, on the publication of two highly acclaimed books and his honor by the Eire Society of Boston  for his commitments to the Irish Society, Culture.  Bob has been a good friend of the Wider Horizons project since the start and has hosted the Wider Horizons students at Boston College as well as in his home where we had many a splendid cookout!
